Trick or Treat

Guising as ghouls, witches and other creepy characters can only mean one thing…Halloween. In the days leading up to this frightful holiday animals at both parks have been given some special spooky themed enrichment!
Yesterday, Edinburgh Zoo’s 11 much loved meerkats were treated to a few Halloween horrors, proving that this spooky time of year isn’t just for humans. The mob of meerkats ventured out into a zombie graveyard of an enclosure. This eerie extravaganza was complete with tombstones, which had a few morsels of their favourite foods buried deep inside; along with creepy carved pumpkins oozing with even more fiendish foods for these cool kats to enjoy.
Meanwhile Halloween came early for the Highland Wildlife Park’s tiger twosome this year, as they pounced for pumpkins…a little like bobbing for apples, but with a tiger twist!
Amur tiger duo, Dominica and Marty, enjoyed jumping at pumpkins last week, as the Park gets ghoulish in the build-up to their even spookier Halloween event on 31st October.
Hand-carved pumpkins were hung from trees at different heights around the tiger enclosure and were made even tastier, as some meaty treats were stashed inside the hollowed out pumpkins for them to enjoy!
This All Hallows Eve the Highland Wildlife Park will be hosting a spook-tacular event on Wednesday 31st October from 5.30pm to 7.30pm. The ghoulish goings on will include a moonlit walk, spooky stories from the Park’s very own coven of witches and other creepy characters. Prizes will be awarded for best Halloween costume and Pumpkin lanterns, tickets are available for £5 adults and £2 for children.
